Toronto Police Community Member Awards for Cst. Bingham and Cst. Chojecki

On January 24, 2017, Mr. Istvan Szajko was driving by an intersection when he
witnessed a gun point robbery occur on the sidewalk. He observed the suspect board a
TTC bus in an attempt to flee the area. Mr. Szajko followed the bus as he phoned 911 to
relay the situation and current location of the suspect to the police.

As the bus came to a stop, police officers and TTC Constables James Bingham
and Maciej Chojecki located the suspect. As the officers attempted to place the suspect
under arrest a struggle ensued. TTC Constables Bingham and Chojecki assisted the
officers in gaining control of the suspect and placing him under arrest. During the
course of the arrest, the TTC Constables located a bulge in the side pocket
of the suspect’s pants which turned out to be a loaded handgun that was used in the
robbery.

In recognition of their quick actions and keen observations, TTC Constables
James Bingham and Maciej Chojecki are awarded with Community Member Awards.
